The Leamington Post is an independent news and information site for Royal Leamington Spa, Warwick, Kenilworth and the rest of Warwick district. We work from documents, we cite them, and we are not connected to the council or to anyone we report on.
Three towns, one council
Leamington is the largest town in the district and the place the council works from. Warwick, smaller and older, gives the district its name, which confuses almost everybody at least once. Whitnash sits between them and is effectively part of the same built-up area, and Kenilworth is separate again, closer to Coventry than to either. The villages round the edge, Cubbington, Radford Semele, Bishop’s Tachbrook, Barford, Hampton Magna and Lillington, come under the same authority. We name the actual place in every story rather than writing “Warwick district” and leaving you to guess.
What we cover
Planning applications and decisions from Warwick District Council, its committee papers and budgets, licensing notices, police.uk crime data, HM Land Registry sold prices, Food Standards Agency hygiene ratings, Environment Agency flood warnings for the Leam, the Avon and the Itchen, and company filings in The Gazette. County-level services such as roads and schools come from Warwickshire County Council, and we say so when a decision is theirs rather than the district’s.
Reorganisation
Warwick District Council is due to be abolished on 1 April 2028, when it and Stratford-on-Avon District Council are replaced by a single South Warwickshire unitary authority. That will change which body answers for bins, planning and council tax here. We will report each step from the published papers, and we will keep the practical pages on this site pointing at whichever authority is actually responsible on the day you read them.
